Amy White Abbott
Co-Executive Director
Amy Abbott began her career in non-profit sector and after a decade of "pulling drowning people out of the river," she felt called to go upstream and stop them from falling in.
She trained as a community organizer in Northern Virginia where she taught citizens how to build power in order to change their communities. Amy helped hundreds of people organize around preschool access and won over 1,000 new slots of pre-k for low-income children.
Amy has been deeply formed by experiences of powerlessness throughout her life. A for-profit landfill that cropped up in her hometown in rural Ohio. Watching as black people were denied their right to vote. Receiving less compensation than a male colleague doing the same work. Because of this, Amy feels a deep responsibility to make systemic changes and sees CPA Co-op as one of the vehicles to address issues of inequality, racism and poverty.
Alongside her colleagues, Amy has worked to transform CPA's operational design to adopt workplace democracy and transparent compensation. She has ushered in a new phase of the co-op with the mantra that "how we do the work is as important as the work itself." Amy has been at CPA Co-op since 2018 and has been serving as its Co-Executive Director since 2021.
